“In life, it is not necessary to have everything under control.  It is enough to choose love freely every day!”

375 Years of service!

The Sisters of St. Joseph of today, in imitation of our early Sisters, and all who have gone before us, remain open to the mystery of God, and respond to the continual unfolding of God’s care in our lives.

Our Sisters continue to support our former ministries, including Gray House, Homework House, House of Peace and Education, Heartwing Center in Montague, and other organizations professing a ministry that responds to the dear neighbor, without distinction.

Today, we continue to care for and support one another, while conscious of the needs and varied situations experienced by our neighbors. We offer our prayers and presence where and when necessary with love, concern, courage and compassion, “that all may be one.”

Please feel free to scroll down and explore, and learn more about our ministries and ourselves!

About Us

You can find Sisters of St. Joseph just about anywhere. We were founded to discover where the need was greatest. We were to go there with love of God and love of neighbor without distinction. For 375 years, that’s what we have been doing, and it must be effective, for you can now find us in 57 countries. The Springfield Congregation and our agrégées and associates continue to advocate for nonviolent means of peacemaking, and we work with and for justice. We do so joyfully.

The SSJ Springfield Congregation is part of The Federation of all the Sisters of St. Joseph in the United States which includes 2,423 sisters, 2,820 associates, and 63 agrégées of 16 Congregations throughout the United States. Visit their web site at: www.cssjfed.org.

Our Mission

In the nearly century and a half of our presence in some of the dioceses of New England, the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph has focused and challenged us while our ministries have adjusted and changed according to the needs of our dear neighbors and our ability to respond.

Our mission, “to unite neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God without distinction”, stretches back over all these years to Le Puy, France, in 1650. It endures to this day because it is the mission of Jesus.

As our physical presence in the working world diminishes, we continue to respond by educating ourselves and others to the needs around us through our vibrant Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee. The strong infrastructure of prayer supports us individually and as a Congregation. The bonds we have developed over time with students, colleagues, associates, agrégées, and parishioners are deep and endure as part of our legacy to continue to “unite neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God without distinction”.

Ways to Give

It is a pleasure for our Development Office staff to send greetings to our faithful benefactors who support our retirement and ministry needs. For your commitment to us, we offer sincere thanks and an assurance of our prayers. We know that it is in the language of prayer that our hearts speak their deepest feelings of gratitude.

In Memoriam

Please join us in prayer for these recently deceased members of our Congregation:

Faithful God, grant our Sisters, Agrégées and Associates everlasting peace.

They loved you greatly in this life.

May they be at home in Your Presence for time and eternity.

So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are a part of us.
